Chaos – Security

Today the world is in a fit of chaos. Political struggles for power, threats of war and violence, threats of nuclear warfare, and nations and people within nations fighting for what they feel is rightfully theirs. Through social media and news channels these fears and unrests are brought to our doorsteps, homes, and pockets. Information of struggles from many quarters of the world invade our minds, bringing unrest and anxiety. In what we read and see, authority is both misused and undermined. Much of what is available is based on opinion and supposition, rather than knowledge and truth. People freely express opinions, which makes for a lot of heated and damaging controversy. People fighting for personal rights, rather than moral truths. I don’t think many of us struggle with knowing the truth, but the influx of information coming into our minds, presents opportunity for us to become emotionally affected by that which is happening a world away. On top of that, we only can see the perspective through which it is presented to us; which may at best, be incomplete. It could be much worse, or better than we have come to understand it. Many of the struggles include moral topics on which we as Christians have a clear Biblical understanding of the truth. However, Satan wants these things to become so commonplace that they become fuzzy in our minds.

This concentration of information has the probability of dragging us down. On the other hand, not all of the information presented to us is of negative content. We have the choice of Christian songs, spiritual lectures, and articles to listen to and peruse. Even as you read this, you are adding another element of information to your already full mind. It isn’t long and our mind is busy, full to the brim of noise and entertainment; with little room left for the Holy Spirits soft quiet voice. You and I are the only ones who can deal with this influx. It may be that we will have to do some cutting back on our intake of these things, to be able to hear the still small voice of the Holy Spirit.

As Christians, where do we go to find security? Are we going to be faithful to the Lord, or are we going to be swallowed by the cares and fears of life? Are we going to allow the happenings in the world to steal our happiness and peace? Is this what Jesus references in the parable of the Sower? See Matthew 13:3-23. Will the cares of life overtake us and snuff out the flame of our love for Him?

We do not need to feel indifferent to the suffering in the world, after all compassion is an attribute of Christ’s love in our hearts. However, we are not designed to carry a world of trouble in our minds. In fact, many of those troubles are not ours, they belong to the kingdom of the world; we are the children of the day.

The Word of God is our source of strength. Here are some promises from His Word to give us courage. Seek out your own and add them to the list.

1 Thessalonians 5:5 KJV Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

John 16:33 KJV These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1 John 5:4-5 KJV For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

John 18:36 KJV Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

2 Corinthians 5:1 KJV For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Matthew 28:20 KJV Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
