Morning Meditation & Prayer

Good morning, Lord. I wonder how you are this morning. I know you never sleep; your eyes continually watch the world to observe your creation. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be you, watching the people you have created. So much fighting, wars, and unrest; surely your heart must almost be torn in two at times as you see all of this. It must be a mixture of emotions going on, because at the same time no doubt you are rejoicing for those who are serving you.

I was just thinking about all this this morning, so I hope you don’t mind me addressing you like this. I do not mean to be disrespectful in any way. After all, you are so high and holy, that I cannot even come to you without Jesus interceding for my sins.

As I thought about all of this, my mind went to your Word. There are verses about you being angry with the wicked, as well as verses about the love you have for those who seek and serve you. There are also verses that express your love for all mankind, telling us that there is nothing that can separate us from your love. This is all unfathomable for us humans to wrap our minds around. We are so limited in our understanding, that we can only grasp a little of your will and way. Here are a few verses that came to me as I was thinking about all of this.

Psalms 34:15-16 KJV 15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. 16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

Psalms 7:10-11 KJV 10 My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. 11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

Romans 8:35-39 KJV 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

These are but a few verses that tell of the way you think of us Lord.

In my mind I had this picture of you seeing the world from up high somewhere. I know that is not altogether correct, because you are also here walking with us. However, I imagined you looking at the world and seeing those who are serving you as little pinpricks of light among the background of darker hues of blue and black. I suppose only you in all your greatness and understanding would be able to see it in its correct form. Only you know what is really going on in the hearts of men. We as the human race are so mixed with prejudice and judgment, that no doubt to us, it would look quite different from reality. I am thankful we do not have to make that judgment call. We as humans are so human, you could say, that we forget that we cannot hide from you. It does not matter who we are, your all-knowing and all-seeing eye can look right through us as if we were clear glass.

You know Lord, the most incredible thing in all of this is your compassion and love, despite all of the unrest and hatred in the world. Your promises are true and real. When someone, the darkest sinner or terrorist, calls on you to save them, you are right there. It is like you are connected with your creation. Or even me! When I call on you, it’s not like you are off somewhere preoccupied on the other side of the world, you are there ready to hear me, just like I am the only one on your mind in the whole world. Oh, such earthly, earthly thinking! The more one thinks about it, the more he realizes that he knows so little! We cannot imagine how you do things Lord. All the millions and billions of people that are living, as well as those who have lived, yet you knew and know each one intimately! Our little minds simply cannot imagine such. It is difficult enough for us to look at the vast sky with its stars, with its expanse of blue and know that it is so big, that man can never get to the end of exploring it. I stand in awe. How can it be? And then thinking of all the imaginations and thoughts that roll through my mind daily, then multiply that by all the people who are living and breathing on the earth, and you know each thought, each passion, each desire. And who are we that can begin to approach someone who is so great, and knows all those things? And yet we are compelled to. We have no one else who can help us with our needs. There is no one who knows us as intimately as you Lord. It is true that we have this enemy of our soul who wants to destroy us. However, even he with all his power pales in comparison to you almighty God. You feel so great Lord, that I should only whisper your name. Oh, my Lord and my God!

Is this but a glimpse of eternity? Our minds cannot grasp the thought of “no end” to something. And yet that is what you say about eternity. It is forever, and ever without end. It is either eternal bliss or eternal damnation; there is no in-between. This same loving God who wants us to love Him, will one day turn His face away from those who chose their own way. In a sense Lord it hardly seems fair to us earthlings. What about those people who never had the knowledge of you and took their own way? Surely you gave them all the opportunity to get to know you.  Our minds cannot imagine that.

I think I have said all that was on my heart this morning Lord. Thank you for the meditation and thank you most of all for your loving care. Thank you for being my Father; for caring enough for me to save my soul. Thank you also for the little touches you have given me along the way. Help me to have a portion of that same love and care for others, that I will have courage to share.

Psalms 19:1-14 KJV

1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, 5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. 6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
